Wide Rothko

The major idea follows the basics of earlier moving image toys or visual installations like the “Panorama”. The footage and the soundscapes were taken in Hong Kong and in the Chinese province of YunNan, the vast space of Shangri la contrasts with the dense and populous urban space of Hong Kong. The piece converts the typical loop based approach to a more linear development, based on Gilles Deleuze’s concept of time image, in “Wide Rothko” there is an exploration of 2d space representation and horizontality, where behind the representative qualities of the image there is the creation of a new hybrid space, the space of the image itself and the world that instead of being recreated is in itself created.
