The Body and Screens

The video ‘The Body with Screens’ pays homage to early Video Art, Feminism and Art and Body Art. The work is set in the artists home, which adds a personal and home-made quality to the work, this re-iterates the presence of the artist. Cameras and monitors are used to create layered views, which the artist uses to gain control and presence, to force the viewer to confront their own gaze. The monitors externalize the space between the gaze and produce a contrast between the reality of flesh and reproduced reality. The effect is, the body becomes an image.
