Street view

Memory, homeland and culture are related in a simultaneous process that plays a necessary role in supporting both individual and collective memory, which converge into social memory. In the streets of the urban fabric of Istanbul, a montage of architectural elements has been taking place on a daily basis as part of an informal decay through negligence and renovations, glorifying a synthetic past as well as historical revisionism. By adopting a photographic approach to moving images an approach allowing me to imbue my work with a more intimate atmosphere-, the imagery for this video is from the revamped historic neighbourhoods of “Arnaout Kevi” and “Pera”. It is about erasure as well as being disembodied, questioning the barriers that keep a society divided yet enclosed and disembodied.
