Unlearn

Unlearn is a steady close-up on hands washing themselves in water with a bar of flesh-colored soap. First, it appears to be a sensual and erotic play with hands. With the soap, drops all tenderness and former unity is being replaced by competition. The hands rub against the each other and seem to drown the other. A woman’s voice recites sentences in a repetitive manner; thoughts on learning and unlearning; learning and unlearning in love and the impact it may have on the re-construction of the self. The text is based on and inspired by the american researcher Norman Doidge and his recent writings on neuroplasticity.
