Less Like More

This series further explores my process, which I use to convey both a form of comfort and suppression. The process starts by making a comfortable custom for each person in the photograph based on their personality and environment. The people being cozied are family and friends with whom I am emotionally connected with, and the cozies are made with love. The portraits are created in the person’s natural environment, but equally show the comfort of their surroundings as well as strange or ironic details that create a subtle discomfort. Adding to the strange discomfort, the cozy itself covers and suppresses the person even though it has familiar and cozy connotations of a handmade sweater.
