Fifth Wall

Fifth Wall features a chorus performing a seemingly endless task of climbing and descending. The relationship between the figures and surrounding architecture is called into question, as is the figures’ purpose. Are they trapped in this perpetual state of flux? Are they acting out of defiance or submission? Fifth Wall continues Katharine Frys investigation into the structure of narrative and the experience of time. By removing temporal parameters and jump-cut editing, her films convey an unchanging, extending moment that attempts a freeing-from-time while reinforcing a binding-in-time.
