Xiaowen Zhu

Xiaowen Zhu is a Berlin-based artist, filmmaker, and writer. Her work communicates the complex experience of being a diasporic person and explores notions related to migration. She was an artist-in-residence at ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany and V2_Institute for the Unstable Media, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She was a film mentor at the British Film Institute, a visiting filmmaker at New York University and Rhode Island School of Design, a visiting professor at Syracuse University and Marymount College. Her work has been widely shown internationally, including Whitechapel Gallery (London, UK), Whitstable Biennale (Whitstable, UK), Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum (Beijing China), Chronus Art Center (Shanghai, China), Art Basel Hongkong, ZKM | Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe, Germany), and more.
