Petrou Lia

Lea Petrou (1978, Crete) lives and works in Athens. She studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design (1996-1997 London) and Central St. Martins College of Art (1997-2000 London). In 2002, she received a Masters in Sculpture of the Royal College of Art in London. Petrou has been an artist – in – residence at CCA Kitakyushu (2003 – 2004 Japan) and Cite International des Arts (2001 Paris). Her work has been presented at group shows in Greece: “Blind Date 12”, “Rooms To Let” Action Field Kodra 2006, curator: Effie Halivopoulou, “The Scarecrow” Averoff Museum of Modern Greek Art Metsovo, curators: Olga Daniylopoulou- Nico De Oliveira- Nicola Oxley, “Visions” Athens Imperial Hotel & Macedonia Palace Hotel, curator: Irene Gerogianni and abroad: CCA Kitakyushu (Japan), Enyen gallery (Tokyo), RCA-The Henry Moore Gallery (London), ACAVA artists studio spaces (London), Davies st. Gallery (London), Greenwich Citizens Gallery (London), Devlet Resin Heykel Muzesi (Ancara), Cite International Des Arts (Paris). She has accepted the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation scholarship (2001-2002 & 2003-2004 Athens) and bursaries from the Royal College of Art and CCA Kitakyushu (2000-2002 London, 2003-2004 Japan). She has also received the Millenium Award (2001-2002 Peabody Trust, London) and a one-year free studio space from ACAVA (2001-2002 London). Her work has been published in Greece (Gap-issue 4), Japan (CCA Kitakyushu research program 2003-4 publication) and the webpage of “the loss project-a draft drawing. She has worked as an art-leader at Camden Arts Centre (2002 London), at Tiverton school (2002 London), at Hoxton Hall (2003 London), at CCA Kitakyushu (2003-2004 Japan) at Herakleidon-Experience in Visual Arts (2005-2006 Athens), and at primary school of Nea Genia Ziridi (2004-2007 Athens).
