Nam Su Hyun

Su Hyun Nam’s work envisions the disintegration of the world. Nam takes photographs and divides the picture into hundreds of horizontal bars. Recently, Nam has focused on trees as her subject matter. She moves the horizontal bars ever so slowly at different speeds. Her “arboreal companions” remain still and silent as the world moves around them. Like the trees’ roots and branches, Nam’s images continually spread. Nam saw similarities to the tree’s existence and her current situation as an observing foreigner in Chicago.Nam received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Konkuk University in Seoul in 2011. She then went on to complete a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Nam is an internationally exhibited artist.
