Akama Ryoko

Ryoko Akama is a sound/visual artist and Nagauta (Shamisen/Traditional singing) practitioner. Between 1995 and 2006 she lived in the UK, beginning her career as a sound engineer in 1996. Interested in shamisen, electronic sound and composition, Japanese traditional music and poetry, moving and still image, a/v performance, digital media, sonic installations, interactive and participatory arts, films. She manipulates the sound of nature and life, then contemplates the value of dynamics and the power of silence. Digital yet organic texture is in her pieces of soundscapes and video productions.
